Ex-Pro Surfer surfs 40 hours, breaking world record for longest session

Former professional surfer Blake Johnston surfed for 40 hours, breaking the previous record for longest surf time in the world on Friday… and it’s all for a great cause!
The Australian surfer got into the water early Thursday morning (around 1am) and skimmed over 600 waves, before leaving H20 around 5pm, easily surpassing the previous record of 30:11 minute.
Not only has Johnston cropped for nearly 2 consecutive days for fun, he’s raised money to support the mental health of young people in Australia. It’s a cause close and dear to the surfer’s heart… he lost his father to suicide 10 years ago. In an effort to bring back as much as possible, Blake has partnered with Chumpy Pullin Foundation.
Blake was able to continue surfing as the sun went down with the help of some spotlights. Doctors, who monitor Blake’s health, are also on hand in case he needs medical assistance.
Hundreds of spectators were present to witness the historic moment, and Johnston admitted he was “pretty ripe” after breaking the record.
“Thank you guys, you guys are the best,” Blake said after leaving the ocean. “Everybody deserves to feel great, deserves to take care of themselves. Good luck.”
